Stay Alive.

Recently, reflecting on what I know now, what I’ve learned, I realize staying alive doesn’t have to be a thing of sacrifice, that you’ll have to do for the people who loves you. No! You do it for yourself. I see Staying alive revolving around freedom. Freedom to choose if you truly want to. And for what reason?

Countless times you’d wish you could just end it, and not play pretend anymore, constant battle of the mind, from the angel on the right shoulder and the devil on the left, one talking you off the ledge and urging you to put the razor down, while the other simply want some peace, quiet, and total abyss, demanding freedom and ending the battle once and for all.

The ones that listen to voice on the right are considered brave and strong, but are they truly?

I know we live to fight another day. But should we not also have the freedom to choose to not take part in any of these fights at all, because we didn’t ask to be in any of it in the first place. Left to many of us, if we had the choice we wouldn’t want to be a part of the world, i mean no, some of us don’t want our names written in the sand of time, some of us don’t want to contribute in the growth of the economy or be a subject to capitalism and patriarchy.

But involuntarily, One way or another, we find ourselves contributing, helplessly submissive to the bourgeoisie. Pulled by the want to get praised for simply doing what’s right, hence the recognition and the cliche “written names on the sand of time”

But those of us who simply wants freedom, the freedom to stay alive.

How do we get freedom now that staying alive doesn’t warrant it ?

Which leads us to this question. Is freedom truly a thing of the mind ?

Like Voltaire would say: “Man is free at the moment he wishes to be”, does this only apply to being free from the bond and shackles we face daily in our lives, or the choice to not partake in the activities, or does it apply to the choice to listen to the resonating voice on the left.

To me; True freedom should come from good health, freedom to do what we want, the power to think and reflect on things independently_ instead of running after wealth, after recognition that will be forgotten in the end. I’m not against acquiring all these, in fact it makes living easy for majority of the world, it gives many lives meaning but true freedom is realizing all these things keeps us prisoners, denying us true happiness if we don’t get these worldly achievements posing as freedom.

I think If we learn to reflect quietly, make our mind independent and strive for real happiness and bliss by journeying inwards, we’ll be in a position to achieve real freedom. The world inside of us is far more real than the world outside, i consider it as an illusion that keeps changing with time. Being mindful or being in the state of mindfulness, i think we can reach and achieve true freedom and be liberated from the struggle of the mind, that has confused us on whether to stay alive or not.
